One of the more puzzling arguments made in favor of Epic Games in its legal battle with Apple is that Apple, aside from running the distribution platform that is the App Store, doesn’t do much to warrant a 30% commission on microtransactions. Apple recently said Epic’s lawsuit was nothing more than a ploy to “reinvigorate interest in Fortnite” amid declining revenue.Epic also threatened to release Fortnite updates on other platforms first if Apple didn’t comply. Apple notes that Epic on a number of occasions threatened to remove all of its games from the App Store if Apple didn’t accommodate its requests.Recent Apple filings detail the immense behind-the-scenes support Apple provided to Epic Games over the last two years.
